Check your version: Settings › System › About › Android TV OS version.

1. Turn on Developer options

Settings › System › About › Android TV OS build ×7.

2. Turn on debugging

Settings › System › Developer options:

  • Android 12: USB debugging on. Connect normally.
  • Android 14: Wireless debugging on, then Pair device with pairing code. Use the pairing option in ArtFrameRemote’s Connect step (details). Keep the Chromecast on Wi‑Fi for this; Ethernet reportedly doesn’t work for pairing.

3. Connect

IP address: Settings › Network & Internet › your network, or Settings › System › About › Status.

4. Make ArtFrame the screensaver

Google TV’s menu (Settings › System › Ambient mode) only offers Google’s screensavers, so ArtFrameRemote selects ArtFrame. The selection survives restarts; only debugging switches off.

5. Keep the screen on long enough

Settings › System › Power and energy: Energy saver (may be labelled When inactive or Shut-off timer). Set it longer than the screensaver delay. Keep the delay at 10 minutes or more (under 6 reportedly stops it).

Living with Android 14

  • ArtFrame keeps working as your screensaver indefinitely; you only need a connection to change things (send art, HUD settings, updates).
  • After a restart: Developer options › Wireless debugging on, then Connect in ArtFrameRemote. Your Mac stays paired, so no new code is needed unless you chose Forget or revoked access.
  • A forum report (not official) says Google doesn’t plan to restore port 5555.
