TCL sells TVs with Google TV, Android TV, Fire TV and Roku TV, sometimes as the same series. Only Google TV and Android TV models work.

Is this my TV?
Don’t go by the model number; check the TV:
- Google TV: Settings › System › About shows Android TV OS. ✅
- Android TV: Settings › Device Preferences › About. ✅
- Fire TV: Settings › My Fire TV (or Device & Software). ❌
- Roku TV: Roku home screen and Channel Store, no Google Play. ❌
1. Turn on Developer options
- Google TV: Settings › System › About › Android TV OS build ×7.
- Android TV: Settings › Device Preferences › About › Build ×7.
2. Turn on debugging
Developer options › USB debugging on. Community guides report port 5555 works with this alone. If refused, use Wireless debugging and a pairing code (Connecting).
3. Connect
IP address: Settings › Network & Internet › your network.
4. Make ArtFrame the screensaver
Google TV: TCL’s menus only offer Google’s Ambient mode, so ArtFrameRemote selects ArtFrame.
Required on TCL Google TV: allow auto-launch
TCL blocks apps from starting in the background unless allowed. Without this, ArtFrame may never start as the screensaver.
ArtFrameRemote tries to allow this automatically when it installs ArtFrame. If the screensaver still never starts, do it on the TV: open Safety Guard › Permission Shield › Auto Launch Permission, set Auto manager to Closed, and set ArtFrame to Opened.
Android TV: Settings › Device Preferences › Screen saver lists screensavers and When to start (5 min – 2 h). ArtFrame should appear there once installed; ArtFrameRemote can also select it.
5. Keep the screen on long enough
- Settings › System › Power › Auto power savings: switches picture and sound off after about 15 minutes of no use. Turn off, or ensure it’s longer than the screensaver delay.
- A separate 4-hour standby also exists.
- Android TV: Device Preferences › Screen saver also has Put device to sleep and Sleep timer.
Known issues
- Auto-launch blocking (above) is the most common reason the screensaver never appears on TCL.
Undo
- Restore the screensaver from ArtFrameRemote’s TV page.
- Auto-launch: set ArtFrame back to Closed in Safety Guard.
