Sony has made Android-based TVs since 2015 and Google TV models since 2021. Both run ArtFrame. Sony TVs also accept Sony’s own network control, so ArtFrameRemote can adjust the picture, sound and power from your Mac.

Android 14 on Sony (from Aug 2025) reached entry and mid models with Realtek chips: Bravia 2, X74K/X75K, X64L/X70L/X74L/X75L/X77L and similar. The 2024–2025 premium models (BRAVIA 7/8/9, 8 II) stayed on 12 as of the latest reports.

Is this my TV?

Sony Google TV shows the Google TV home screen (For you / Live / Apps). Sony Android TV shows rows of apps with Google Play. Check Settings › System › About (Google TV) or Settings › Device Preferences › About (Android TV) for Android TV OS.

1. Turn on Developer options

Google TV: Settings › System › About, scroll to Android TV OS build, press OK 7 times. ✅ verified.

Android TV: Settings › Device Preferences › About (older firmware: Settings › About), press OK on Build 7 times.

If Developer options disappears again, restart the TV fully: hold the remote’s power button for about 10 seconds until it restarts.

2. Turn on debugging

Google TV: Settings › System › Developer options. ✅ verified on A80K:

  • USB debugging: turn on.
  • ADB debugging: turn on. This opens network port 5555 on Sony. Some guides call it Network debugging; same switch.
  • Wireless debugging and Pair device with pairing code are also present on Android 12 Sony models, but not needed: port 5555 works.

Android TV: Settings › Device Preferences › Developer options › Debugging › ADB debugging (and USB debugging).

If the TV refuses the connection, Sony’s own advice is to switch ADB debugging off and on again.

3. Connect

ArtFrameRemote usually finds Sony TVs by name. Otherwise: Settings › Network & Internet › your network shows the IP address.

4. Make ArtFrame the screensaver

  • Google TV: Sony’s Google TV menus offer only Ambient Screensaver (Settings › System › Ambient Screensaver) and, per Sony, can’t change when it starts. ArtFrameRemote selects ArtFrame and sets the delay for you. ✅
  • Android TV: ArtFrameRemote works the same way. Most Android TV models also list installed screensavers in Settings › Device Preferences › Screen saver (Android 7+; on Android 6 it’s called Daydream). Not yet confirmed on a Sony with ArtFrame installed.

5. Keep the screen on long enough

Set these longer than the screensaver delay.

Extras: picture, sound and power

ArtFrameRemote’s TV Settings page can change picture mode, brightness, contrast, light sensor, local dimming, XR contrast booster, colour temperature, volume, mute, power saving and standby. Reading works straight away; changes need a key you set on the TV.

Google TV (2021–): verified on A80K ✅

  1. Settings › Network & Internet, scroll below the Wi‑Fi list to Local network (or Local network setup).
  2. Remote device settings › Control remotely: On. On the A80K, IP control stays hidden until this is on.
  3. Local network › IP control:
    • Authentication: Normal and Pre-Shared Key.
    • Pre-Shared Key: choose one.
  4. ArtFrameRemote › TV Settings › IP Control: enter the same key.
  5. Remote start (for Wake from the Mac): options Off / On (Home Network Devices) / On (Various Devices and Apps). Uses more standby power. Usually under Network & Internet.

Android TV (2015–2020)

  • Android 9–10: Settings › Network & Internet › Home network (or Remote device settings) › IP control and Control remotely.
  • Android 8 and earlier: Settings › Network › Home network setup › IP control; Remote start may sit under Wi‑Fi Direct.
  • Labels follow Sony’s professional-display documentation; consumer menus may differ slightly.

EU models with 2025 firmware ⚠️

Since EU cybersecurity rules took effect on 1 August 2025, Sony documents for its professional displays that Control remotely defaults to off, some models accept only HTTPS with a 16–20 character key, and some hide the Authentication option. One consumer owner (K‑55S30) reported the latter.

ArtFrameRemote currently uses HTTP. On affected TVs picture and sound control may not connect; everything else still works.

Known issues

  • OLED dimming: A80K/A90K/A95K (and older A1/A8F) dim still images. Turn off Light sensor, keep Pixel shift on (Display & Sound › Expert panel settings), and shorten Each painting shows for. Sony advises running Panel refresh no more than once a year.
  • Ambient mode errors after updates: one A95K owner reported Ambient mode breaking after an update. Unrelated to ArtFrame, but if your previous screensaver misbehaves after Restore, that may be why.
  • Developer options disappears: fix with a full restart (hold power ~10 s).
  • Hotel / Pro mode: hidden menus that change many settings; avoid them.

Undo

  • Restore the screensaver: ArtFrameRemote › TV › Restore Previous Screensaver.
  • Turn off network control: Local network › Remote device settings › Control remotely off; IP control › Authentication back to Normal.
